Creating a mineral-inspired setting with brass accessories without excessive reflections
Share
Hematite and brass both have reflective surfaces. A brushed vase, a matte background, and a sphere on its stand help control these reflections. The composition is best appreciated with few objects and light coming from the side.
What you need
- 1 piece: Hematite - Sphere. Size selected: ø 4.2 cm (Medium). View the reference.
- A matte sphere stand.
- A small brushed brass vase.
- A light-colored tray.
Prepare the space
Measure the available depth before placing the minerals. Keep their entire base inside the cabinet or on the stand. Compare the combined weight of the pieces with the furniture's weight capacity, then choose the point from which you want to view the composition.
The setup, step by step
- Clear the surface and place the empty accessories. Check that the stands are level and wide enough for the chosen pieces.
- Place the sphere on its stand away from the vase.
- Position the light from the side to avoid a frontal reflection common to both objects.
- Choose a matte background, with no mirror behind the composition.
- Reduce the number of accessories to let the two surfaces interact.
- Observe the result from the usual distance. Correct any overlapping contours, then check the stability of each piece one last time.
The detail that matters
Brushed brass adds a warm presence while limiting very sharp reflections.
Adjust the light and proportions
Start with diffused light and observe the surfaces from the main viewing point. Move an accessory slightly if its shadow or reflection obscures the stone. Maintain the proportions of the pieces actually chosen: a small mineral is enhanced by moving closer or simplifying the background, without multiplying the accessories.
